FOR THE SELLER:
- An electrical inspection is done to ensure the reasonable safety of the installation.
- The Compliance Certificate (“COC”)
- does not cover appliances, such as: Geysers, thermostats & elements, extractor fans, stoves, ovens, ceiling fans, air conditioning units, pool motors/pumps, intercom systems, automatic gates & motors, jacuzzi’s, pool lamps, lamps & light bulbs; globes of any type, transformers for down lights.
- Any appliance or piece of equipment that is fed off a plug top is not covered by the C.O.C
- When checking light fittings, we check for power to the light fitting, but we do not replace globes.
- When replacing light fittings, we only replace them with standard S.A.B.S. fittings – For example: “Bowl & Galleries” & “Econo Bulk Head Fittings”.
REMEMBER:
- Always use a contractor who is registered with the ‘Electrical Contractors Association’.
- A “COC” should be issued when any type of electrical work is completed, be it a small job or a big job.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
- An aerial or satellite dish must be bonded to the earth connection of the installation with a 2.5mm earth wire.
- The hot and cold water pipe on a geyser must be earthed and bonded together.
- Stove outlet wires must be enclosed in sprague.
- You may only have closed light fittings in a bathroom. You must not be able to touch any lamp/globe with your finger.
- An electrical inspector is not responsible for previous work which may have not have been completed according to regulation standards.
- The inspector only reports what he finds wrong with the existing installation
- Electrical work completed 20 years ago, that is currently working, does not mean that it complies with today’s Electrical Standards
D.B. INFORMATION
- If a D/B is mounted in a cupboard, then an isolator must be mounted out of the cupboard so that the main switch can be easily located.
- If a new plug is fitted, an earth leakage has to be fitted if there is not already one in the premises.
- The test button on an earth leakage unit must trip the unit when it is pressed.
- The main switch in the ‘Distribution Board‘ (D/B) may not be higher than 2.2m above floor level and not less than 1.2m above floor level.
- A D/B may not be mounted directly above a cooking appliance.
